Our education programme
Courses are the most common form of educational services. They take place in a limited space of time and concentrate on a specific topic, imparting basic information on that specific topic by using theoretical and practical approaches.
Workshops are educational events with a higher degree of practical relevance. They concentrate on the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience between the participants, mostly by means of exercises and experience reports. While giving impetus and imparting knowledge, the workshop instructor mostly acts as a facilitator.
The participants in our courses usually number between 10 and 30.
Major events are a special kind of course where the higher number of participants necessitates a higher degree of teacher-centered teaching. In our present programme this will probably concern courses held by Frank Kinslow, Richard Bartlett, Melissa Joy, William Bengston and Belinda Davidson.
Major events are events where the number of participants exceeds 80.
The duration of our courses and workshops varies between one and several days.
Usually, our courses are not connected with a formal degree.
Ordinarily, you can repeat courses which you have already participated in at half-price. However, some lecturers have different regulations. Please remember to state clearly that you are a repeater when registering for a course and to enclose proof of your former participation as otherwise we cannot grant you a possible reduction. Please bring your manual from the time you first took the course as repeaters will not receive any new course material!
After prior consultation with the course instructor, instructors are usually welcome to serve as assistants in courses for which they have a teaching licence. Please give us a call.
Courses held by English-speaking guest lecturers
Some courses marked (E/D) will be held in English and translated consecutively into German by experienced translators.
We ask for your understanding that we can generally not allow pets in the classrooms due to allergy sufferers and those with phobias.
Free public transport with KONUS guest card
Overnight guests receive a so-called “Schwarzwald-Gästekarte“ with the KONUS symbol from their hosts. In connection with a valid official photo identity card, this guest card, which also grants reduced admission prices for numerous attractions situated in the Black Forest region, serves as a ticket for the 2nd class in all busses and trains of all nine transport associations of the holiday region Black Forest between Rhine and Neckar, Pforzheim and Waldshut, for the duration stated on the card. If you show your KONUS guest card when getting on a bus or train, you can enjoy a free ride for yourself and your co-vacationers on local public transport.
If you offer a lift, please indicate this on your registration form. If you are looking for an opportunity to get a lift, you can visit our website www.iak-freiburg.de or you can call us a week prior to the start of the course. If there is a carpooling offer, we will be glad to give you further information.
Video and audio recordings, photographing, mobile phones
In some courses we take photographs which we would like to use inter alia for course announcements and social media. Sometimes there are also video recordings which, however, exclusively serve the private purposes of the course instructors. We will, of course, respect your wish not to be photographed or filmed. In order to ensure this we do not grant our course participants the right to make any video or audio recordings or take any photographs in the course rooms.
Due to the feedback of a number of participants we would also ask you to switch your mobile phone off during the course and forego any acoustic signals or vibration alarms.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Any lost property found in our course rooms will be retained for half a year.
